You don't need a gun license to drink wine

Why premium wine doesn't have to be complicated – no vocabulary, no expert knowledge, just pure enjoyment.

Do you know that feeling? You're standing in front of a wine list or in a wine shop, and suddenly everything feels a bit intimidating. Terroir expression, tannin structure, malolactic fermentation – does that sound like a foreign language? Welcome to the club. But wine is actually the simplest thing in the world: a drink that should bring joy.

Wine is not a science – it's an invitation. An invitation to open your senses, discover new aromas and simply feel joy. The rest comes naturally.

The Myth of the Wine Expert

For decades, the wine world has successfully created the impression that only initiates can truly judge what is good. But the truth is: Your palate is your best guide. If you like a wine, then it's good – for you. Period.

Premium wine doesn't necessarily mean complicated. It means: carefully cultivated, vinified with passion, and bottled with character.

Three Simple Questions for Your Next Glass

  • 🍇 Does this wine smell of fruit, earth, flowers or spices?
  • 👅 How does it feel in the mouth – light, full-bodied, fresh, soft?
  • ✨ What feeling does it leave you with? Joyful, thoughtful, warm and cozy?

Scheurebe – The Secret Queen of German White Wines

Crossed in 1916, Scheurebe combines the best of two worlds: the freshness and minerality of Riesling with its very own aromatic opulence. Typical aromas: Blackcurrant, cassis, white peach, grapefruit, nutmeg, rose blossom, passion fruit.

Many wineries today offer fascinating insights into the vineyard and cellar on their website or via a QR code on the label. This will deepen your enjoyment even further.
Questions & Answers

Absolutely not. Enjoying wine is a deeply personal experience – and your taste is the only guideline that matters. What wine knowledge gives you is context and the opportunity to deepen your enjoyment – but it is not mandatory.

Scheurebe suffers from several factors: its name sounds difficult for international markets, and it was long primarily used for sweet styles. Yet, dry Scheurebe can be breathtakingly complex and long-lived. A real insider tip.

A sneak preview of wine means: briefly engage with the wine before you drink it. Who made it? Where does it come from? These little background details create an emotional connection that significantly enhances your enjoyment.

Our Home is Paradise: The Franconian Wine Paradise

How terroir, soils, and sites shape the character of our premium wines.

When people think of German wine, Mosel or Rheingau often come to mind first. Yet, one of Germany's most exciting, original, and characterful wine regions lies right in the middle: Franconia. An area that is not loud, but deep. Not fashionable, but honest.

Wine from Franconia is wine with attitude. It comes from soils that shape character – and from people who know when to trust nature.

Terroir: What the Soil Tells the Wine

The dominant soils in Franconia's best sites are Muschelkalk (shell limestone) – which imparts unmistakable minerality – and Keuper, rich in clay and gypsum, which stands for fullness and depth. Franconia's climate is continental: hot summers, cool nights, moderate rainfall.

The Bullenheim Paradies Site

South-facing, located on nutrient-poor shell limestone soils, this site produces wines of exceptional tension and depth. Scheurebe from the Bullenheim Paradies shows what happens when an aromatically expressive grape variety meets a soil that forces it into discipline.

On the back label of many bottled wines, you'll find information about the site. Next time you try a Franconian wine, just take a look – the origin always tells a story.
Questions & Answers

Terroir describes all natural factors that shape a wine: soil, climate, site, and slope. In Franconia, Muschelkalk and Keuper soils, a continental climate, and south-facing slopes create ideal conditions for premium wines with unmistakable character.

The site is located in the Steigerwald on nutrient-poor shell limestone soils and is south-facing. These conditions force the vines to root deeply and produce low yields – the result is particularly concentrated fruit and striking minerality.

The origin is the invisible flavor carrier of a wine. A Riesling from shell limestone tastes different from one from Keuper soil – and it is precisely these differences that make wine so fascinating.

Food pairing made easy: Which premium wine goes with pizza, pasta & sushi?

Specific recommendations on how to easily choose the right premium wine for your favorite dishes.

Food Pairing Made Easy

Which premium wine goes with pizza, pasta & sushi?

"White wine with fish, red wine with meat" – this old dogma is obsolete. Food pairing today is a creative discipline that is fun and works with a few simple basic principles. You don't have to be a sommelier to do it right.

Basic rule: Similar to similar – light dishes with light wines, rich dishes with rich wines. It couldn't be simpler.

Pizza

Goldmuskateller is a surprising but brilliant choice here: its floral aromatics and lively freshness elegantly counter the tomato acidity and highlight the spicy notes.

Pasta & Sushi

Pasta in tomato sauce? Silvaner – dry, mineral, clear – harmonizes wonderfully. Sushi demands freshness and minerality. Silvaner is a classic Franconian recommendation here, made for centuries.

The Two Golden Rules

  • Match intensity: light food needs light wine.
  • Acidity is your friend: A wine with good acidity makes almost any food more palatable.
For sushi and Asian cuisine in general, opt for aromatic white wines – they complement the umami notes wonderfully.
Questions & Answers

Yes. Dry, fresh white wines with good acidity – like Silvaner or Riesling – are true all-rounders. Sparkling wine or Crémant are also surprisingly versatile companions.

Its minerality and freshness support the marine aromas of raw fish without overpowering the subtle nuances. The principle: similar origin (earth, minerality) is found in both wine and food.

Both! Dry: ideal with appetizers, goat cheese, asparagus or spicy pizza. Sweet: wonderful accompaniment to desserts with fruit.

Wine for Beginners: Premium for Your First Good Bottle

The most important terms, grape varieties, and label tips so your first premium wine choice isn't a shot in the dark.

Wine for Beginners: Premium for Your First Good Bottle

Terms, grape varieties, and label tips for the perfect start.

You want to drink wine – good wine, maybe even premium wine. But the selection is huge, the terms confusing. Don't worry: finding your first good bottle is easier than you think – if you know a few basic principles.

A good wine label answers three questions: Who made this wine? Where does it come from? Which grape variety?

Quality Levels in Germany

  • 🍇 Table wine / Country wine: Everyday wines, without guarantee of origin.
  • ⭐ Qualitätswein (QbA): With designation of origin.
  • 🏆 Prädikatswein: Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese – the higher, the riper.
  • 🌟 VDP-Wines: Top quality with site designation.

Grape Varieties: Your First Compass

  • 🍋 Riesling: Fresh, mineral, versatile – Germany's king grape variety.
  • 🌿 Silvaner: Close to the soil, mineral, subtle – the perfect food companion.
  • 🌸 Rosé / Spätburgunder: Fruit-driven, accessible.
  • 🍑 Scheurebe: Aromatic, bold, unexpected – for those eager to discover.

Three Golden Beginner Rules

  • Never buy too cheap – premium wine is almost impossible below 8 euros.
  • Get advice – whether in a specialized shop or through a package.
  • Drink what you like – not what someone else tells you.
Questions & Answers

From about 12 to 15 euros, the range where quality becomes reliable begins. From 20 euros upwards, you will almost always be pleasantly surprised. A good tasting package is the smartest way for a beginner to invest.

These terms describe the ripeness and sugar content of the grapes at harvest – not necessarily the sweetness in the wine. Kabinett: lightest harvest, often dry. Spätlese: riper grapes. Auslese: selective harvest of overripe grapes, often nobly sweet.

Because wine becomes understandable primarily through comparison. Several wines tell you: What do I actually like? Which grape variety, which style? Tasting sets offer maximum discovery with minimal risk.

Buying Premium Wine Online: How to Find Truly Good Bottles

What to look for in reviews, shops, and prices.

It has never been so easy to buy wine – and never has the selection been so overwhelming. Hundreds of shops, thousands of wines. With a few simple principles, you can confidently navigate the online wine market.

Understanding Reviews Correctly

Wine reviews from critics reflect the taste of a handful of experts – not yours. Instead, pay attention to customer reviews, situational wine descriptions, and recommendations from people with similar tastes.

Direct Purchase from the Winery

Direct purchase is often the best choice: authenticity, often lower prices, and direct contact with the people who made the wine. Between 12 and 25 euros, you will find many excellent premium wines.

Tasting sets and introductory packages are ideal for online purchases – you try before you invest.
Questions & Answers

Pay less attention to points, more to the description. Look at customer reviews. Buy from a specialized wine shop or directly from the winery rather than a general portal.

Absolutely. You get the most authentic price, the freshest goods, and can ask questions. Many wineries have newsletters through which you learn about new vintages before they sell out.

Yes – it is now. Modern processes such as gentle vacuum distillation make it possible to remove alcohol without destroying the aromas. Sneak Zero is a good example: wine character without alcohol content.

Premium Wine for Young Connoisseurs: Which Wine Suits You?

Premium Wine for Young Connoisseurs: Which Wine Suits You?

Aroma profiles and everyday situations as a guide to the right wine.

The generation between 25 and 40 drinks wine differently: more spontaneously, more socially, more consciously – and above all: according to taste rather than convention. Premium wine is no longer a contradiction to a modern lifestyle.

The best wine is the one you want to enjoy in this moment. No rules. No etiquette. Just enjoyment.

Which Wine Type Are You?

  • 🌊 The Freshness Fan: You want lightness, citrus, a seaside feeling.
  • 🌸 The Rosé Romantic: You love color, fruit, and elegance all in one.
  • 🍑 The Aroma Explorer: You want to be surprised – exotic fruits, floral notes.

Wine by Situation

White Lobster GOSCH Sylt: light, salty, fresh – a seaside feeling on the terrace. Liebe Roséwein: ideal for social evenings, picnics, and aperitif rounds.

Next time you buy wine, just ask: "What situation is this wine made for?" The answer reveals more than any rating.
Questions & Answers

Start with situations, not grape varieties. Think about when and where you want to enjoy wine. When in doubt: try a package with several wines and see what excites you.

Rosé wine is often underestimated. A high-quality rosé is created through short skin contact and is vinified with as much care as a good white wine. The quality has improved enormously.

A collaboration with the legendary fish restaurant GOSCH on Sylt – light, lively, with salty minerality and an elegance that suits the sea. Even far from the sea, it brings a Sylt feeling to the terrace.

Instagram, TikTok & Wine: How the Young Generation Drinks Premium

How social media is changing the wine taste of Millennials and Gen Z – and which wine styles are currently trending.

Instagram, TikTok & Wine

How social media is changing the wine taste of the young generation.

Ten years ago, wine recommendations were the domain of critics and sommeliers. Today, a 30-second TikTok clip decides which wines end up in the shopping cart. Social media has shifted the power – from expert to experience.

The new wine expert is called @weinfan_hannah – and that's perfectly fine.

Wine Styles That Are Booming

  • 🌸 Rosé & Pink: Color is communication – cheerful, uncomplicated.
  • 🍓 Fine-fruity wines: Accessible aromatics that don't need an explanation video.
  • 🥂 Sparkling wine & Perlwein: Sparkling = Moment. Social media loves moments.
  • 🌿 Non-alcoholic & Low-Alc: Growing segment among younger users.

Rotling: The Underestimated Trend Ambassador

Rotling is a Franconian specialty – made from mixed harvests of red and white grapes. The result: a fine-fruited characteristic between rosé and white wine. On social media, it works brilliantly because it provides conversation material.

Don't just share the glass – tell the story behind it. A wine with a story gets more engagement than a wine without context.
Questions & Answers

It depends. Influencers who truly love wine and report authentically can be fantastic sources of discovery. The best test always remains your own palate.

Rosé wine is usually made from red grapes with short skin contact. Rotling is made from the co-fermentation of red and white grapes – the result is a distinct flavor and an old Franconian tradition.

It looks beautiful and puts you in a good mood. The delicate pink color, the golden bubbles, the lightness – that's visually communicative. The epitome of a "moment wine."

Experience Instead of Etiquette: Premium Wine, Events, and Wine Lifestyle

Why tastings, music, and community are more important for young wine drinkers than stiff wine tastings.

Experience Instead of Etiquette: Premium Wine, Events, and Wine Lifestyle

Why tastings, music, and community are the most important things today.

Imagine: white tablecloth, silent audience, a sommelier speaking in hushed tones about "terroir expression." That was a wine tasting. The past tense is intentional. Today: rooftops and vinyl records. Picnic blankets and natural wines.

The best wine is the one you drink with the right people in the right place. The label is the least important thing.

What Characterizes Modern Wine Events

  • 🎵 Music and atmosphere – wine is a social drink, not a seminar.
  • 🍕 Food Pairing – eating and drinking together instead of one after the other.
  • 🧪 Discovery – unknown grape varieties, regional rarities.
  • 👥 Community – people who are as curious as you are.

Scheurebe & Goldmuskateller: Wines that Tell Stories

Scheurebe is predestined: expressive, aromatic, unknown enough to be surprising. Goldmuskateller brings floral elegance and a smile to the glass – perfect for social settings.

Instead of ten mediocre wines, choose four exceptional ones – and tell a story about what makes each one special.
Questions & Answers

Choose 4-6 wines with a common theme. Serve each wine blind – without a label. Let everyone smell, taste, describe. Then reveal and compare. Serve with water, bread, and some cheese. No sommelier needed – just curiosity.

Because they communicate immediately. Scheurebe has an expressiveness that even beginners feel: you smell this wine before you taste it. It evokes reactions – and reactions are the heart of every tasting.

Wine seminar: knowledge transfer in the foreground, structured, with specialist lectures. Wine tasting (modern): experience in the foreground, relaxed, sociable, combined with music and food. The modern format is much more accessible and more fun.

Sustainable Premium Wine: Organic, Regional, Conscious Enjoyment

Why more and more young wine drinkers are looking for sustainable premium wine and what to look for when buying.

Sustainable Premium Wine: Organic, Regional, Conscious Enjoyment

What you should really look for when buying.

No food is as closely linked to its place of origin as wine. Every sip is a piece of soil, climate and nature. Sustainable viticulture is not a fad – it is the logical answer to the question of how wine culture can function in the long term.

A wine that is sustainably grown not only tastes good – it has a story that feels good.

Three Certifications You Should Know

  • 🌿 Organic / Eco: No synthetic pesticides, certified according to EU organic regulations.
  • 🌍 Demeter: Biodynamic cultivation – the strictest form of organic farming.
  • ♻️ Sustainably certified (e.g. Fairwin, ECOVIN): Standards for viticulture, cellar, and operations.

Bacchus – a Particularly Sustainable Grape Variety

Bacchus is a robust, early-ripening cross that is significantly more resistant to fungal diseases – this considerably reduces the need for plant protection and promotes regional value creation.

Next time you buy wine, simply look for the cultivation site. The more regional, the better – for you and for the environment.
Questions & Answers

Organic wine primarily describes cultivation: no synthetic pesticides. Natural wine goes further: minimal intervention even in the cellar, spontaneous fermentation. Organic is more clearly defined and regulated.

Sustainable viticulture is more complex: more manual labor, lower yields. This is often reflected in the price – but the extra cost has a real value: a wine from an agriculture that preserves the earth instead of exploiting it.

Bacchus is significantly more resistant to fungal diseases than many classic grape varieties – this considerably reduces the need for plant protection. In addition, Bacchus thrives even in less privileged locations.

Less Alcohol, More Taste: Light Premium Wines for Conscious Enjoyment

Why no- and low-alcohol wines are becoming increasingly important and how to recognize lighter premium wines.

LS
Lukas Schmidt
Sustainability · 5 Min. Read

Less Alcohol, More Taste

Why no- and low-alcohol wines are becoming increasingly important.

"Sober Curious" – curious about sobriety. A growing movement, especially among young people, who don't completely cut alcohol out of their lives but want to consume it more consciously. Not out of obligation, but out of conviction.

Conscious enjoyment does not mean abstaining – it means quality over quantity.

How is Non-Alcoholic Wine Made?

Alcohol is removed from finished wine – by vacuum distillation or reverse osmosis. Modern processes preserve the aromas. Sneak Zero: wine character without alcohol content – for drivers, pregnant women, athletes or anyone who wants something different today.

Sweet Wine as a Light Alternative: Honey Dew

Sweet wines with low alcohol (often 8-9%) can be a wonderfully light alternative. Honey Dew: natural residual sweetness, fine fruit, moderate alcohol.

Sweet wines are generally served cooler (8-10°C) – this enhances their freshness and pleasantly dampens the sweetness.
Questions & Answers

Not quite – but much closer than expected. The best non-alcoholic wines, like Sneak Zero, come surprisingly close to the original – especially white wines.

For many more people than one might think: pregnant women, drivers, people on medication, athletes, sober-curious connoisseurs – in short: for everyone who loves wine but doesn't want alcohol today.

The most important factor is the quality of the base wine. Pay attention to the origin and transparent information about the production method. Vacuum distillation at low temperatures is the gentlest process.

"This is Freak City for me" – Interview with winemaker LUKAS SCHMIDT, wine partner of the Bamberg Baskets

"This is Freak City for me"

Interview with winemaker LUKAS SCHMIDT, wine partner of the Bamberg Baskets.

How does a winemaker from a 300-inhabitant village get into basketball? Lukas Schmidt explains why the BROSE ARENA immediately captivated him – and what viticulture and elite sports have in common.

What excites you about basketball?

To be honest, I got into basketball by accident. Here in Bullenheim, I never had any contact with it. Then Oli Hahn from the Bamberg Baskets invited me to a game – right in the front row. It was the game against Bayern, the loudest game of the season. The positive energy, the good mood among players and spectators – for me, it's the smartest sport I've ever seen.

What particularly fascinates you about Bamberg?

I had always heard before that the atmosphere was supposed to be incredibly good. In fact, I can take any of my business partners to the hall blindfolded, and they are thrilled afterwards. It's not just about the sport, but also the event that the Bamberg Baskets put on there is unparalleled.

Why do you support the Bamberg Baskets?

We ourselves create a lot of wine concepts and constantly develop within our segment. I see this vision also in the club: setting up the whole thing in such a way that it is sustainable not only for the next two months, but for the next five to ten years – that excites me as a young entrepreneur.

As a winemaker and restaurant kid, we all always have a screw loose. I see exactly this "little screw loose" in Freak City too – meant very affectionately.

Your best Bamberg moment?

Every time I'm at a game and I come from the lounge into the arena and everyone is in a really good mood – that moment made me attend every game now. Especially unforgettable: when I got to shoot a ball in front of 5,000 people during the first quarter break. At that moment, when you stand down there on the court in front of the basket, you only then see how damn far away it is.

The partnership between LUKAS SCHMIDT and the Bamberg Baskets combines Franconian wine culture with the energy experience of the BROSE ARENA.
Questions & Answers

Both thrive on passion, precision, and the joy of indulgence. A good wine, like a good basketball game, needs the right atmosphere, the right people – and the right moment.

In the exclusive VIP Lounge of the BROSE ARENA, fans and guests have the opportunity to enjoy selected LUKAS SCHMIDT wines – a perfect combination of sporting excitement and pleasurable ambiance.

BR Television: Wine Recommendations from Middle Franconia

We in Bavaria – with Conny Ganß about the LUKAS SCHMIDT Winery.

Although Middle Franconia is significantly smaller than Lower Franconia in terms of vineyard area, its winemakers are highly skilled. In the BR magazine "Wir in Bayern", Conny Ganß presented the LUKAS SCHMIDT Winery.

The Bullenheim Paradies

In the district of the winegrowing village of Bullenheim, the largest vineyard area in Middle Franconia extends. The "Bullenheim Paradies" site is the cradle and namesake of the "Franconian Wine Paradise" wine region. No wonder that master winemaker Lukas Schmidt chose the bird of paradise as his logo.

Lukas Schmidt – Eleventh Generation

Already at the age of 17, Lukas had the drive to create something valuable from big dreams. Today, he leads the family winery in Bullenheim in the eleventh generation. He brings a lot of skill and respect for nature – and courageously and innovatively goes his own way. His infectious joy of life is also reflected in his wines.

A glass, or even a bottle, full of joie de vivre – for every occasion. Authentic, Franconian, and with a certain twinkle in the eye.

Scheurebe – Planted by Grandpa Werner

Lukas Schmidt's "Smart Wine" concept stands for high quality, clearly communicated. The Scheurebe Second Flight excels with varietal-typical fruit of pink peach, orange, and juicy passion fruit – plus fine notes of nutmeg and elderflower. Planted by Grandpa Werner over 50 years ago. On the palate, wonderfully quaffable, good drive, lots of juiciness, and animatingly dry.

The entire broadcast is available online – Lukas Schmidt can be seen from minute 20:00.
Questions & Answers

High quality, clearly communicated: no technical terms, no barriers. Every wine in the Second Flight segment immediately tells you what it's about – aromas, occasion, moment of enjoyment. Wine for everyone who enjoys it.

Scheurebe unites everything LUKAS SCHMIDT stands for: expressive, aromatic, Franconian. It was one of the first grape varieties of the winery and remains so to this day – a grape variety with history, character and a lot of joie de vivre in the glass.

LUKAS SCHMIDT Wine stands for unique aromatic grape varieties – Scheurebe, Muskateller & Riesling. Complex, juicy, spicy – great! In the Art & Wine Magazine podcast, Lukas Schmidt delves into the wonderful world of "nose wines."

"Wine should be fun!" – Lukas Schmidt on his passion for Scheurebe.

Scheurebe – The German Sauvignon Blanc

In the podcast, Lukas Schmidt explains why he calls Scheurebe the German Sauvignon Blanc: expressive, aromatic, with an unmistakable fragrance profile of pink peach, passion fruit, and fine spice. A grape variety that communicates immediately – and inspires.

The Bullenheim Paradies as Home

The winery is located in Bullenheim near Ippesheim. The "Bullenheim Paradies" is the largest single vineyard in Middle Franconia – south-facing with a 50 percent slope. Best conditions for great wines. Old vineyards, spontaneously fermented estate wines, classic Bocksbeutel.

The podcast is available on the Art & Wine Magazine: art-wine-mag.com/lets-talk-wine/scheurebe-lukas-schmidt
Questions & Answers

Scheurebe combines aromatic expressiveness with Franconian origin – a rare duo. It is spontaneous, exciting, and immediately tells a story. In an era when wine should be emotional and experiential, Scheurebe is ideally positioned.

Nose wines are wines that open up at the first sniff and immediately create images in the mind. Pink peach, passion fruit, elderflower, nutmeg – these aromas make Scheurebe and other LUKAS SCHMIDT wines so accessible and exciting.

Where Wine Tradition Meets Innovation

Bayreuther Tageblatt – Portrait of the Lukas Schmidt Winery, by Christian Schwert.

In the idyllic community of Bullenheim, where the craft of winemaking has been celebrated for 11 generations, you'll find the Lukas Schmidt Winery. For Lukas Schmidt, it's not just a task, but a great honor to continue this long family tradition.

Since 1639: Eleven Generations of Viticulture

The Schmidt family looks back on a viticultural history that dates back to 1639. Lukas Schmidt himself discovered his passion for winemaking early on – wine training, internship in Southern Styria, further training as a master winemaker and technician for viticulture and oenology. With a mix of tradition and innovation, he has led the family estate to new heights.

With passion and dedication, Lukas Schmidt continues the long family tradition and at the same time sets new standards in the wine world.

Two Lines, One Vision

The "Second Flight" wines stand for summer, sun, and carefree enjoyment – fresh, light, perfect companions for social occasions. The "First Flight" wines are the great top wines from the Bullenheim Paradies – expressive, complex, for special moments. Particularly highlighted: the beloved Scheurebe, which has played a central role in the assortment for decades.

Close to the Consumer

With close collaboration with SAGASSER beverage markets and Müllers Feines Zeug in Bayreuth, Lukas Schmidt ensures direct contact with consumers – and thus further stimulates his communicative abilities and innovative spirit.

The complete portrait can be found in the Bayreuther Tageblatt.
Questions & Answers

Second Flight: uncomplicated, fruity, suitable for everyday use – the ideal entry into the LUKAS SCHMIDT world. First Flight: the premium line from the Bullenheim Paradies – deeper, more complex, for special occasions and moments of enjoyment.

The Bullenheim Paradies is the largest single vineyard in Middle Franconia – with a south-facing aspect, a 50 percent slope, and gypsum Keuper soil. This unique combination provides the spicy minerality and pronounced fruit that characterize LUKAS SCHMIDT wines.

Wine blogger Chez Matze: "Lukas Schmidt Wine Rocks the Ski World!"

The World Cup Silvaner from LUKAS SCHMIDT on test: How the official wine of the German Ski Association (DSV) scores on the slopes and on the palate – a self-experiment.

"Lukas Schmidt Wine Rocks the Ski World!"

Wine blogger Chez Matze tastes the official DSV World Cup Silvaner.

Summer, sun, Franconian wine – that's what they say. But what happens if you turn it into: winter, sun, Franconian wine? Lukas Schmidt has succeeded in creating the official World Cup wine of the German Ski Association. A Franconian wine. Even a Silvaner!

The World Cup Silvaner in the Glass

Rich color in the glass, ripe pear on the nose, spicy hint from the Keuper soil – the start is already excellent. On the palate, the World Cup Silvaner glides smoothly around the curves: harmonious swings, the ripe fruit cushions everything. Plus a slight effervescence that promotes freshness. Mandarin, spring announces itself in the glass.

The snow is white, the sky is blue, Lukas Schmidt wine rocks like hell! – Chez Matze

The DSV Partnership: Franconian Wine on the Streif

Lukas Schmidt is an enthusiastic skier himself and even participated in the notorious Streif in Kitzbühel. The partnership with the DSV is therefore ideal: the World Cup wine embodies dynamism, passion and a winning spirit – just like skiing. For years, the DSV had recommended Austrian wine, until Lukas Schmidt let them taste Franconian Silvaner. That convinced them.

With Käsespätzle in the hut, with grissini in front of the TV or outside on the terrace: the World Cup Silvaner asks no questions – it simply provides the right answer.
Questions & Answers

It was created from a joint idea with the DSV – hand-picked on September 21st, from old Silvaner vines in the Franconian wine paradise. The wine combines spicy notes, powerful aromas and Franconian terroir. A wine that makes team spirit and performance tangible.

The World Cup Silvaner is available in the LUKAS SCHMIDT vinotheque in Bullenheim, in selected retail stores and in the online shop. A new creation is planned every year.

Official Wine Partner of the DSV

LUKAS SCHMIDT becomes wine partner of the German Ski Association and all national ski teams.

LUKAS SCHMIDT Wine is now the official wine partner of the German Ski Association (DSV) and the German national ski teams. This exciting partnership connects the world of wine with the fascination of winter sports and underlines the quality leadership of both brands.

Top Performances United

The DSV is Germany's largest winter sports association with 20 state ski associations and disciplines ranging from alpine skiing to biathlon to ski jumping. The German national ski teams are among the best internationally. The partnership with LUKAS SCHMIDT unites top performances in both fields – excellence, quality and consistency as shared values.

"We are incredibly proud to be the official wine partner of the DSV and to support the German national ski teams." – Lukas Schmidt

Wine at the World Cups

LUKAS SCHMIDT wines are available at DSV events and events with the national ski team. This enables the ski community to experience first-class Franconian wines – and connects wine lovers with sports fans in a unique way.

The partnership later led to the creation of the exclusive WELTCUP Silvaner – the official wine of the DSV, which is re-released every year.
Questions & Answers

Both require precision, patience, and passion. A great wine and a World Cup medal are not achieved overnight – both require years of work, the right terroir, and the courage to forge one's own path. LUKAS SCHMIDT and the DSV stand for precisely these values.

In addition to the WELTCUP wine, an initiative was launched: with every purchase of the non-alcoholic line, LUKAS SCHMIDT supports young German skiers. Multiple biathlon world champion Simon Schempp is a fan of this initiative and actively supports it.

Double Gold at AWC Vienna

Bullenheim, October 2023 – International award for LUKAS SCHMIDT at the AWC Wine Competition.

The renowned family-run winery Lukas Schmidt is pleased to announce that it has won double GOLD at this year's AWC Vienna Wine Challenge. This award is proof of the consistently excellent quality, craftsmanship and commitment of the entire team.

The Competition: One of the Most Respected Worldwide

A total of 11,376 wines from 1,514 winemakers from 42 countries across all five continents were submitted. The tasting of the AWC Vienna took place at the Höhere Bundeslehranstalt für Weinbau in Klosterneuburg, Austria – with an anonymous blind tasting system according to the international 100-point scheme.

Double gold out of 11,376 wines worldwide – that's no coincidence, that's craftsmanship.

High-Caliber Jury

The expert jury consisted of national and international oenologists, wine analysts, sommeliers, restaurateurs, specialist retailers and specialist journalists. All wines were tasted blind without knowledge of their origin – no label, no story, just wine.

AWC Vienna is one of the most respected independent wine assessments in the world – the double gold award confirms LUKAS SCHMIDT at an international top level.
Questions & Answers

An AWC gold medal means that the wine was judged as outstanding by international experts in a blind tasting process – without knowing the brand or origin. It is one of the most independent and renowned wine awards worldwide.

LUKAS SCHMIDT won two gold medals, which demonstrates the breadth of quality in its portfolio. The winery's Scheurebe and other aromatic wines are known for their consistent top quality – precisely what an international competition like the AWC recognizes.

BROSE BAMBERG × LUKAS SCHMIDT

The young winemaker Lukas Schmidt becomes official wine partner of Bamberg Basketball.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe already knew: "Life is too short to drink bad wine!" Although Franconian beer has its roots in the center of Upper Franconia due to the high density of breweries, Franconian wine is now appreciated in Bamberg. Since February 1st, Lukas Schmidt is the new official wine partner of Brose Bamberg.

Wine in the Cradle

Lukas Schmidt was figuratively born into wine. For eleven generations, more than half a millennium, the Schmidt family has run the winery in Bullenheim. The best Scheurebe grapes have grown there for decades – once planted by grandpa, today harvested by the grandson.

Life is too short to drink bad wine. – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Aromatic Wines for the BROSE ARENA

Lukas Schmidt stands for complex, fruity and spicy aromatic wines. His wines are now served in the BROSE ARENA – a combination of Franconian wine culture and the energetic experience of Bamberg basketball. Lukas Schmidt (to the right of Oliver Hahn) is delighted with the new collaboration.

This first partnership with the Bamberg Baskets was the cornerstone for a long-term collaboration that was later extended prematurely several times.
Questions & Answers

Oliver Hahn from the Bamberg Baskets invited Lukas Schmidt to a game – and the spark immediately flew. The energy of the arena, the positive atmosphere, the enthusiasm of the fans: Lukas was immediately convinced. Since then, he has been at every game and his wines are an integral part of the BROSE ARENA.

Selected wines from LUKAS SCHMIDT are served in the BROSE ARENA – in the VIP Lounge and at events. Particularly popular: Scheurebe and Secco Pink. Wines that match the energy and joy of life of Bamberg basketball.
