This is how young winemakers cook.
The second edition of the wine cookbook of "Generation Riesling"
Two years after the publication of the first edition, which received the "Gourmand World Cookbook Award 2017" as the best German wine book, around 60 young winemakers are again presenting their favorite recipes and recommending a suitable wine from their current range.
Around 600 young German winegrowers up to the age of 35 have come together in the “Generation Riesling”. This makes the association, which was founded by the German Wine Institute in 2006, the largest young winegrowers' organization in the world. The members are highly qualified, consistently quality-oriented and internationally experienced. They exchange ideas with each other and present their wines - by no means just Riesling - at numerous events for trade, gastronomy and the media every year.
This time there are also two majesties among the participants: Laura Lahm from Rheinhessen is German Wine Princess 2017/2018, Julia Baltes (née Bertram) was German Wine Queen 2012/2013. The recipes are as varied as the vintners themselves and offer a wide spectrum - from a simple meal for every day to a sophisticated holiday feast. The result is a colorful mixture of meat, fish, vegetable and mushroom dishes, sometimes with an Asian or Oriental touch: the variety ranges from salads, pasta, quiches and burgers to classics such as Wiener Schnitzel and Sauerbraten to unusual recipes such as saddle of venison with a hazelnut crust or flambéed scallops with Riesling foam.
"So cook young winegrowers" is a cookbook and wine book in one and in this respect gives an insight into the wine culture and the typical cuisine of a region and even a winery. The participating winegrowers come from almost all domestic wine-growing regions and are listed in the book according to their origin. Each wine-growing region is briefly introduced at the beginning of the respective chapter; then the wineries appear in the order of the recipe categories with their dish, their short profile and their wine.
